I have joined a new online community that has been developed to help people gain better understanding of coaching. This website is called www.yourvirtualcoaches.com and it has brief descriptions of the different types of coaching and a forum called Coaches Corner. The forum is the most unique part as it provides an area where people can ask coaches questions and coaches can ask other coaches questions. It is clearly laid out into the different coaching areas to make it easier to find the information you want.

Business Partnerships – Do they work?

Partnerships in business are very common today. It may be a husband and wife team, two former work colleagues with a common interest or family members. Some of these partnerships are very successful and others just end in disaster. So why is this so?

From my experience, partnerships are great in business. When in a partnership, partners have someone to go to with an idea, get feedback on their actions and have someone to celebrate their success with. Partners that have a common vision for the business and understand each others strengths and weaknesses grow together with the business.

However I have also seen some partnerships that have caused the business to fail. Partners that have been brought together through necessity or have a common goal but a different vision can make the road ahead quite bumpy. Differing points of view and subversive behaviour by partners will bring the death to a business sooner or later. So what makes a successful partnership?

A successful partnership starts with the partners having a common vision that they have each agreed on. This company vision is made public to all employees and each partner works towards it. Partnerships that set and agree to a vision and the goals to achieve their vision have a higher success rate. A partnership is about working together.

I have worked with many companies that have wanted to improve their business performance only to find the underlining problem was that the partners of the business where running in the same direction but on different routes. Once a common route was set and agreed on; the partners became to work in a more harmonious manner helping each other and achieving goals they never expected was possible.

As a business coach, I help partners outline their visions separately. I then bring the two partners together to share their visions and then work with them to come to an agreed vision for the future. Using tools like assessment questionnaires and our Business Balance Wheel has been very useful to facilitate the process and achieve the required results. Being the independent facilitator / coach, I help the partners come together with a process that is fun and non confrontational. This is essential if an agreement is going to be made that the partners will actually work on together.

So if you are in a partnership or you know of a business partnership that isn’t working, get them to share their vision and then work on agreeing on a common one. If they have trouble doing this then a Business Coach may be the answer.

Achieve Mental Health

Achieving Mental Health is not a easy task but it is one that we all should should strive for. I recently found a excellent article written by an Ex Navy Seal Master Chief – Will Guild. Recently I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer from which I have made a full recovery and if it wasn’t for my Mental Health, I am sure I would have ended up a mess. Let me first say. If it wasn’t for the support from my family, friends and business colleagues life would have been different. I used many of these techniques during this dark period of my life and I continue to use them to this day. These techniques and many others are very powerful and I use them in my coaching and other work practices.

Ten questions you should answer about your website.

Websites are a key component in business today for many reasons. Many prospective clients are now using the Internet to find a business to work with instead of the Yellow Pages. So if a website is such a critical component of a business today then why do so many neglect to develop, maintain or optimise one.

As a business coach I meet many businesses that either don’t have a website or they have a site that is not effective. To this effect I have put my extensive experience in Information Technology, Internet Marketing and Website Development to help my clients take advantage of this low cost yet very effective marketing medium. Below I have listed ten questions that you should take the time to investigate further so the Internet can help you build your business.

Do you have a website? If not get a one now.
Do you know how many visitors your site gets?
Do you know where your visitors are coming from?
Can you find your website on Google using your business name?
Can you find your website on Google using words that you think prospective customers are searching?
Do you have a meaningful description of your website when Google references your site?
What are your competitors doing on the Internet?
Do you know how long your visitors are staying on your site?
Do you know who is referring visitors to your site?
Can your visitors contact you from your site?

Re-Framing

It is important to understand that people have perspectives about their lives, circumstances and surroundings. These perspectives shape individuals thoughts and the way they conduct themselves in everyday life. When you engage a coach to work with you, they should be open to questioning your perspective to give you the opportunity to re-frame your conscious thought.

This process of questioning an individual’s perspective is termed Re-Framing. Some examples of questions that a coach may use re-frame an individual’s perspective are:

So how does that work for you?
What would it take for you to reach your objective?
How do you think the other person feels about the situation?
Why is that holding you back?
Can you see how your actions may be contributing to the situation?

Through the process of questioning someone’s perspective the coach will give the individual the opportunity to explore their conditioning and open their minds to other possible ways of thinking about a situation, circumstance or thought that may be restricting their development. It is crucial that a coach uses the technique of Re-framing to ensure that they give the coachee every possible opportunity to remove obstacles and barriers so they are able to Unleash their True Potential.

Powerful Requests

As a Business and Executive coach I find myself frequently using powerful requests with my clients. This may be confronting for my clients but they appreciate my style and that is why they engage me as a coach. As this is my approach I am upfront during my initial trial session so the client is aware of my process.

My clients appreciate my process and enjoy being challenged. They say that is why they engage me. It allows them to move forward and have someone that will follow them up. Challenging a client is key to their success and that is why they engage me as a coach.

When is the last time you have been challenged through a power request?

Know what you need to do but not the how to do it or you never get around to doing it! You may need a coach that will push you to the next level.

Do you need to be challenged so you can move forward!
